Anyone can test drive Windows 7, straight from Microsoft’s website.
So why Windows 7?
1 is the first Windows, Windows 1.0.
2 are Windows 2.0 to 2.11.
3 are Windows 3.0 to NT 3.51.
4 are Windows 95, NT 4.0, 98, 98 SE and ME.
5 are Windows 2000, Server 2003 and all versions of XP.
6 are Windows Vista and Server 2008.
7 is Windows 7.
It’s basically the 7th generation Windows. Though, as of now, Windows XP still dominates the OS market with more than 60% share. I was using Vista, then upgraded to XP.
Download the Windows 7 Release Candidate here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx
System Requirements:
- 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
- 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
- DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
- Internet access
Remember though, this is a Release Candidate and not the official version. It’s more of a souped-up Beta. There will be some bugs and driver incompatibilities.
MS will give you a free product key necessary for activation. Downloads will be closed by July 2009 and RC product keys will last until June 1, 2010.
