I’m quite sure you’ve heard about this new display technology called “LED” or light-emitting diode. I went to some stores to check some HDTVs and then I saw Samsung’s LED TV. It’s pretty impressive for its size and cheap price. But then, I noticed something odd.
First, calling it an “LED TV” is kinda misleading. Why? Because it is still an LCD TV. They just called it “LED TV” because they’ve replaced its standard backlights to LED ones. Apple also uses this marketing gimmick with their LED Cinema Display line of monitors. Thus, they’re not composed of 100% LEDs.
The only true LED screen that I can think of is Sony’s XEL-1, which uses O-LED (organic light-emitting diode) and costs more than 2 G’s.
