Goodbye MJ

A few days ago I was listening to his songs and wondering what would happen next in his career. Then just this morning I saw a friend’s YM status, Michael Jackson has died at the age of 50.

I didn’t care about his legal battles and other issues. All I cared about was his music and cultural contributions. His 1982 album, Thriller, is still the best selling album worldwide, with as many as 109 million copies sold. When it comes to status, he’s right there sitting next to Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The King of Pop’s contributions are pretty much alive today. Majority of mainstream songs that we have right now can be traced back to his works. He pioneered technologies and styles inasmuch the same way, or even greater, than his influences and predecessors.

(CNN) — Entertainer Michael Jackson died after being taken to a hospital on Thursday having suffered cardiac arrest, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.

Paramedics took Jackson, 50, from his west Los Angeles home Thursday afternoon to UCLA Medical Center, where a team of physicians attempted to resuscitate him for more than an hour, said his brother Jermaine Jackson. He said the famed singer was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. PT.

Five of Jackson’s solo albums – “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Dangerous” and “HIStory,” all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label – are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and “Thriller” as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award’s Artist of the Century Award.
