The metro is about to experience a major internet upgrade, telecom giants PLDT and Globe are all set to open up their respective fibre-to-the home (FTTH) broadband network architectures.
As usual, both companies will (first) introduce the high-speed internet packages to top-tier residences and business areas. To name a few, this includes the Fort Bonifacio Global City, Makati CBD, Forbes Park, Ayala Alabang, Ayala Heights, DasmariƱas Village, Serendra, Bel-Air, Urdaneta Village, Ortigas, Greenhills and WackWack.
According to Globe, their recent optical network is capable of gigabit speeds, but will initially offer 10 Mbps for less than PHP 4,000 a month and 100 Mbps for up to PHP 15,000 a month, both plans are intended to go against SkyBroadband’s 12 Mbps plan.
This could also mean that all existing (or lower) plans would eventually be upgraded to something higher and faster. However, knowing Globe’s hidden tricks, expect their new high-speed plans to come with a download cap as well.
Even so, this upgrade can only mean cheaper and faster internet services in the near future. PLDT is firm with their announcement to launch FTTH later this year. It’s about time for the country to experience faster connections. After all, StarCraft II is near and now is the right time to be on par with the Koreans. kekeke
