I believe most aspiring designers and developers aren’t really into paying much for their web hosting and domain needs. A really simple and working free service is the way to go for most of them: sans the banner ads.
To start with, the Google Page Creator (http://pages.google.com) is probably the easiest free webpage service today. But due to its simplicity, you can’t really do much with it. For beginners, yes, it is a nice step up than your average Geocities (http://geocities.yahoo.com). But for experienced users who are into free hosting, you might as well consider other options.
Another good free hosting is AtSpace (http://www.atspace.com) with free 50MB space and 5 gigs of bandwidth. It has a nice Control Panel, but downside is the lack of MySQL Database. Doteasy (http://www.doteasy.com) also offers a similar service but with 100MB space and 1GB monthly bandwidth. Also check StormLoader (http://www.stormloader.com), 110mb (http://www.110mb.com) and Free Web Space Inc. (http://www.150m.com).
Frihost (http://www.frihost.com) offers up to 10GB bandwidth and MySQL but you have to be an active member of their forums. T35 Hosting (http://www.t35.com) offers SSI with “unlimited” space and bandwidth but it has a 512KB File Size Limit and no MySQL. x10Hosting (http://www.x10hosting.com) has cPanel, 300MB space, 10GB bandwidth, FTP, and MySQL. They really have nice free hosting plans, be sure to read their Terms of Service and/or other policies as well. You can also get 5GB space, 20GB bandwidth, 3 MySQL databases and phpMyAdmin at 5gbs.com (http://www.5gbs.com).
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post everything here and we’d be glad to respond.
