BitTorrent helps TV shows

It seems that not only musicians but also TV show producers are jumping into the download bandwagon. Not that they fully agree with it, but they consider it helpful.

Jesse Alexander, co-producer and writer for “Heroes”, recognizes it:

Half of the people who use BitTorrent do so to download TV-shows. Some episodes of popular shows such as ‘Heroes’ and ‘Lost’ get up to 10 million downloads. We had a chat with Jesse Alexander, the co-producer of both ‘Heroes’ and ‘Lost’, and asked him what his thoughts are on BitTorrent, piracy and the future of TV.

Other producers and presenters, such as the guys from Top Gear, are also giving pats to BitTorrent.

As the demand for “free” and downloadable episodes is really high, BitTorrent is currently the only thing that delivers. But utilizing it for copyrighted content is a form of piracy, and it doesn’t give royalties to the copyright owners. As we can see, the demand is really present and growing. The solution? — offer a free online service for watching TV shows. This is doable thru streaming or download or by using a dedicated application or some media player. And since it will be free, maybe turn down the image and sound quality a little and place advertisements to gain revenue from it. This is a good alternative to DVDs and the people who download stuff off the BitTorrent would probably rethink their ways and consider these free options.

Anyhow, I’d be watching all South Park episodes from seasons 1 to 12 for free: http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes
